Welcome Wednesday with Vivid

Please welcome Vicky & David and their Etsy shop Vivid

Crafting & designing kitsch and geek products to fit into your everyday life and home from Edinburgh, Scotland! Both Vicky & David have photographic and graphic design backgrounds.

Now let's discover Vivid and what they love to make a little differently while believing in being unique and embracing their love of the little things

What is the first creative memory you have?

I think we would have to go with getting credit for a homemade cartoon called Tom The Tomato. We were both quite hands on kids, always making and doing. Our parents often had their hands full and were endlessly stepping over half completed projects. I have an early memory of making playdoe with my mum too. That's a diy I would like to do on our blog at some point. It's really easy but my mum had to put in a ton of salt to make sure I didn't eat it all!

What or whom began your creative journey on Etsy?

Etsy was something we had discussed doing for a while. We basically egg'd each other on for a long time before one of us cracked (pun intended! Hee hee!) It was a step we should have taken a long time ago, but it does take a lot of courage and hard work. We admire Etsy sellers, they are nails!

How did you come up with your shop name?

It's a mixture of our actual names.... that panned out really well! I don't know what we could have called ourselves otherwise; we do a bit of everything!

Describe what creations you have in your shop?

We like to describe what we do as creating curiosities. We have a big mixture of products from prints and illustrations to stationery, engraved pencils, sticky note pads, badges, vinyl lunch bags and tote bags ... and our range is still expanding!

What inspires you?

We are big fans of anything kitsch and vintage so naturally we love a good car boot sale and thrift-a-thon. A lot of our work is based on double entendres which comes from getting the banter with our friends so we would have to include them. Tiny dog's also bring a lot of joy to our day. Simple pleasures!

What do you listen to or watch while creating?

It depends on what we are making. We are big fans of motown music and a bit of pop and rock. Elton John always goes down well... if we can sing to it, you can guarantee it is going to go on!

Please share a favorite recipe

Our all time favorite recipe has to be The Elvis Sandwich. You can only have it every once in a while as it's pretty hardcore, but anything good enough for The King is good enough for us! I went all the way to Graceland to pick up my very own copy of the Elvis cook book too. That is big love for a sandwich! So, without further adieu;

Elvis's Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwich

You will need:
1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
2 ripe bananas, mashed
8 slices of white bread, buttered
butter for grilling
friends to help save you from yourself!

How to make:
Combine peanut butter and bananas and spread over 4 pieces of bread, then top with the remaining slices. Butter the outside of each sandwich then melt more butter in your frying pan. Grill both sides of the sandwich until your mouth is watering and the bread is golden. Undo your belt buckle and enjoy!

Now let's discover Jordan and her shop jordan dene

What is your first creative memory you have?

My grandmom used to have a craft box filled with glitter, toilet paper tubes, and fabric scraps that my cousins and I would go crazy with. We made a lot of cardboard towns and Barbie clothing.

What or whom stared your journey on Etsy?

My friend Kira at Woven by the Baker first told me about Etsy. She helped me set up my shop, and now we have "work days" throughout the week to brainstorm and create together.

How did you come up with your shop name?

My shop name is actually my first and middle names. Jordan Dene`.

Describe what items you have in your shop.

My shop is mostly filled with aprons. I love making aprons that can be worn as a fun way to dress up, too. I have a lot based on nerdy characters and some specifically for kids.

What inspires you?

Making things I think other people will actually want inspires me. I try to think of things my friends and I love and would actually use every day and go from there.

What do you listen to or watch while you are creating?

If I'm in creative mode, I usually need soft background music so I can concentrate. When I'm doing more "mindless" work like cutting and tying strings, I like watching series of my favorite shows.

Please share a favorite recipe.

My favorite recipe is summer bruschetta. It's so simple, just goat cheese, arugula, and sliced strawberries on a toasted baguette. Delicious!
